I used barbed arrows + poison arrow with a warrior... lol. Anything that can degen works fine. Just takes a while. I tried zerging him and he wouldn't stop casting.

He will eventually glitch on a tree/hill/spirit/thatched hut...whatever. After he's done that, degen ftw.

I made up a Any/R build to kill this guy. It uses core skills that you should already have (except 1) and PvE skills.
[skill]Apply Poison[/skill][skill]Savage Shot[/skill][wiki]"I Am The Strongest!"[/wiki][wiki]"Finish Him!"[/wiki][wiki]Deft Strike[/wiki][skill]Troll Unguent[/skill]
Shoot from the hills along the side to increase your range and damage. Simply use a Longbow to keep out of range of the spirits and keep the Griffon poisoned. Always Interrupt Shadowsong to be safe, though it's not a big deal if you don't.

Glitch him on the merchant's spot by pulling... He'll only spam 1 spirit at the time. Get your interupt and degen, then watch him die

Consume soul takes away all of his offense. Then fill in the other 7 slots to kill him.

Beat him day before yesterday on my warrior. I went W/N with the following skill list:
Grenths Balance
Riposte
Deadly Riposte
Savage Slash
"You Move Like a Dwarf"
Healing Signet
Doylak Signet
Last Skill choice is up to you
Now here is the thing; you wont be able to take him on as soon as he spawns because he starts spamming spirits. Even if you interrupt a couple, he will continue to cast all the rest. Somehow the AI doesnt relax until he has laid out all of the spirits at least once and he wont attack you until he has finished the cast so your main offence i.e. riposte and GB are useless. So the way to do it is, attack him in the beginning but when the spirits get through, withdraw. Once he finishes, pull him with a long bow to the edge of the his spirits range. He will now start attacking you. Keep spamming your ripostes and use savage slash/move like a dwarf to interrupt him whenever you see him start to cast (he doesnt cast all of them one after the other like he does in the beginning. He tried casting only 4 times when I was pounding him and I interrupted each one).
Use Grenth Balance when your health goes down to 100-150 and it will do massive damage on him. By the way, keep doylak signet up all the time and never use healing signet unless doylak is up.
Oh and for attributes, max tactics with the rest in strength for doylak and just match the requirement for your sword.
Hope this helps.

Both my Warrior and my Monk got thre griffon by turning into a spirit spammer, the same build I use for the bison tournament. All you need is one energy boosting staff.
Ursan blesing, Painful bond, Summon spirits, Pain, Bloodsong, Vampirism, Shadowsong, Disenchantment.
(and, BTW, I just did it yesterday, so the latest changes to the quest are beatable).

Defeating the Griffon, Finally
Woot, I finally did it. Skills are Sever Artery, Gash, Riposte, Deadly Riposte, Shield Stance Lions Comfort, Grenths Balance (necro no attribute elite from Dragon's Lair) and Signet of Stamina. Using my longbow, I pulled the griffon away from the spirits, took a few shots, then after it got to me, I hit Shield stance, then Riposte, deadly Riposte after first hit, Sever Artery, followed by Gash, by then it pounded me a bit, so I broke attack, and hit Grenths Balance, and hit Signet of Stamina if health was still low and ran away from the newly spawned spirits at my location, got to another spot and repeated the process. When his health gets low, it will be a matter of just spamming ripostes Sever artery and gash and running away as GB will no longer have an affect. Watch carefully as you are running away, be sure to hit Sig of Stamina when necessary. I started out by running up the hill directly to the right and then alternated the other 2 hills to give me the height advantage over the spirits for range with my longbow. Takes some practice, I did it 4 times with this build before I got him. Totaly, I made 46 efforts at this guy. For my gear, I have my ancient armor, Sup vigor, minor strength, and minor tactics all radiant insigs for extra energy, and helm is Sup sword. I used Victos Bulwark -2 damage in a stancehealth 30 and my Sskai's sword, 10% furious, max damage, 30 health any longbow will do, but I used the Sundering one ya get by typing Bonus if ya had the preview code or preorder for GWEN. Attributes were 13 Tactics, 9 Strength, and 12 Sword
